Fresh Tangy Guacamole
This luscious, fresh and tangy Mexican dip made from avocados is no longer just relegated to Mexican restaurants and fast food taco places. Rich in fiber, potassium and other essential nutrients, guacamole can help keep you healthy and prevent certain illnesses when included in a healthy diet.
Coriander, green chilli and lime make this Fresh Tangy Guacamole bursting with flavor. Add guacamole to egg sandwiches, tacos and casseroles to enhance the flavor and boost the nutrition.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
- 2 avocados
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 teaspoon lime zest (grated peel of lime)
- 3 to 4 tablespoons cilantro (coriander), chopped
- ⅔ cup red onion, finely chopped
- 1 green onion, sliced
- 1 Serrano pepper (green chilli), minced
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
1. Halve and pit the avocados, then scoop them into a large mixing bowl
2. Mash the avocado with a fork; add the diced tomatoes, lime juice, lime zest, chopped cilantro, chopped red onion, the sliced green onion, the minced green chilli and the minced garlic clove; fold it all together
3. Add in half of the salt, mix it in well and let it sit for a few minutes. Give it a stir and then taste it and determine how much more to add

- Your guacamole will only be as good as your avocado. It is best when the avocado is just getting soft. If your party is several days away, select a more firm avocado.
- Avocados always ripen faster at room temperature, and best used within one week if stored in the refrigerator.
- Put one of the pits (stones) back in the guacamole and cover, it helps to keep it from discoloring if you are not eating the guacamole right away. The lime zest prevents the guacamole from turning brown as well.
- Adding too much lime juice or very ripe juicy tomatoes can cause a very watery guacamole; if you’re trying to fix an already watery guacamole, add half of a mashed avocado.
- It is really easy to over salt guacamole and you need to taste it in stages.
