Make it a habit to wake up each day with the intention to see life as an incredible journey to be treasured. The best way to be happy is to turn the negatives into positives and be thankful for what you have.
Turn the negatives into positives
Life will continually present you with negative situations. You choose how you react to them. We have all heard the famous saying, “life is 10% of what happens and 90% of how you react to it.” We can either become enraged and fight back, or surrender calmly, and make the best of the situation.
Rather than waste energy and your reputation by reacting negatively, learn to turn a negative situation into a positive. Keeping a positive attitude in a negative situation is hard, but if you work at it you will learn to overcome your emotional reactions. Look at a negative situation or event as an opportunity to learn and grow personally. If you make a mistake that leads to a negative situation, admit to it, learn from it and move on.
Take a deep breath, count to 10, do whatever it takes to remove yourself from the negativity. Wait until you calm down and have thought clearly about your response. “If you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all.”
Be thankful for what you have
Reminding yourself what you have to be grateful for and recording your gratefulness each day helps in creating a peaceful and happy life. It doesn’t matter how difficult your life is at the moment, there is always something to be thankful for, some shining light of gratitude. Gratitude is a conscious decision. You have to practice it consistently.
When our attention is not on what’s right, beautiful and special, it will be on what’s wrong, what’s irritating and what’s missing. A person who celebrates only the big stuff and “highs” will have only fleeting moments of happiness, at best. On the other hand, a person who feels grateful for the small things in life will be happy a majority of the time. The happiest people are those who are contented with what they currently have, not with what they lack.
Utilize the lessons from our mistakes, failures and frustrations. Be more grateful of the bad as well!
